Face Off Max lets you have fun by messing around with photographs, specifically “transplanting” people’s faces. The program has a nice interface, and luckily, there is a wizard to guide you through the steps of choosing a body and a face as well as tweaking picture parameters to make the “transplanted” face look as natural as possible. Not only that, as you advance, you get a very detailed explanation of the purpose and the procedures of each stage.
Fortunately, there are libraries from which you can get face and body templates. Although the ones coming with the installer are very nice, there is also the possibility to download some more from the developer’s website. Likewise, you can import your own photographs or take pictures directly from your webcam.
Much of the quality of the results depends on your ability to select the face region on the source picture and adjust face position. However, tweaking brightness and color to find the exact match is definitely the most difficult part. In this regard, it is good that the program lets you adjust tones separately. Still, probably because I did not have enough patience, I did not succeed in reaching the exact match. It would be good if future releases of the program could help you do that automatically. Finally, you can also add text bubbles.
Once you are done with the editing process, you can decide how you are going to share the resulting picture. Perhaps the easiest way is to save it as file, but the tool also supports sending it by email or uploading it to Facebook. Likewise, you can save your project to disk. Unluckily, once you have reached the final step, the program does not allow you to make any further changes.
All in all, Face Off Max is good enough if you intend to have fun with it, but do not expect anything else from it. For me, its price is exceedingly high for a product that can only be used for such a specific purpose.
